About o-meon and obe-mediaone

For the "grownup geek in all of us," o-meon celebrates the creative and engineering talents behind the scenes in film, television, and music, as well as at theme parks and resorts. We cover the lavish industry and fan events, the thrilling new rides, and the serious and entertaining public battles for power at the top in a way that you just don't get from high-concept magazines, TV, or cable.

Questions Most Often Asked

Are you guys a Disney site?

The short answer is yes.

The Disney name is the most recognized pop-culture entertainment brand in the world. It is the base from which o-meon originates.

For nearly two years, as a featured columnist for JimHillMedia.com, our editor, Chuck Oberleitner, covered Disney and other media company events and activities. As a result, Chuck has come to know hundreds of Disney "cast members," both past and present. He has come to a unique understanding of how millions of Disney and pop culture fans around the world use the internet as their primary means of keeping up with their favorite franchises.

Then there's the Geek Factor. Over the years, Hollywood, inspired by Walt Disney's vision of what imaginative storytelling can be, has given rise to a host of truly creative writers, performers, producers, and directors who openly acknowledge Disney for having started them on their career paths. In addition, you are just as likely to find a Disney fan at a Sci-Fi convention as you are to find Trekies wandering around a Disney theme park.

From iPods and iTunes to roller coasters and blockbuster movies, o-meon will bring you the stories behind the stories of today's most popular pop culture achievements.

What's gonna make you different from the other two jillion Disney sites on the net?

A lot of the stories you'll find posted each week on o-meon will have something to do with The Walt Disney Company, either past or present. We believe, however, that you'll discover our columns and stories have a unique and varied perspective. We're grownups, and while we welcome everyone to our site, we think our readers are grownups to.

Our iTunery series of columns will feature stories about special finds at Apple's iTunes Music store. The Consummate Collector will feature stories by and about artisans and craftsmen who can create one-of-a-kind collectables from the Mouse House to Star Fleet Command for discerning collectors.

Are you going to have discussion boards?

We'd love to. Right now, however, our resources are limited, and we do not have someone on staff capable of dedicating the time and energy required to monitor a discussion board and properly foster a community.

We are excepting applications for an o-meon Director of Discussion and Community Development. If you would be interested in learning more about this overly titled, yet completely unpaid, position please click here.

In the meantime, your thoughts about what you see and read here are important to us. Please feel free to write to us.

How is your site paid for?

Our business plan calls for o-meon to be supported by advertising. This, however, cannot be done until we establish a verifiable reader base. In the meantime, in lieu of subscription fees, we are gratefully excepting reader donations. As time goes on, we will be joining the affiliate programs of several prominent web retailers.

What's "obe-mediaone?"

While our publication, o-meon, is a collective effort, Mr. Oberleitner is our primary contributor and editor. Simply put, he got to name the company.

Is obe-mediaone a reference to Obi-Wan Kenobi?

According to Mr. Oberleitner, it's actually an homage to his father's family. "My dad was the youngest of eight boys. They all grew up at time when kids all referred to each other by their last names. The problem was that Oberleitner was just too much of a mouth full so my dad and all my uncles just became Obe."

By the way, Oberleitner is pronounced: oh-bur-light-nur.
